Description
The basic form of this weapon is that of a trident with two curved side prongs projecting from the handle. It may have originated in India and apparently spread simultaneously in Okinawa, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. In Okinawa ( and Feudal Japan) this weapon is typically used in pairs held by each hand. known as the SAI used for Striking and blocking and trapping and breaking swords.
In South East Asia, this is known as the TEKPI or Chabang used as a defensive weapon, typically used in pairs for stabbing, blocking and parrying and trapping the opponent’s blade.
We make 2 versions of the SAI. One version is made of all 5160 highly polished steel 2.2 pounds ( 1022 grams) in weight and 20.5 inches. The other version is made of Steel and Aluminum for easier handling and twirling and weighs .92 pounds (420 grams) and 20,5 inches. The prongs are 6 inches apart ( or each prong is 3 inches from the main shaft.
